Robert Downey Jr. sends a curse-laden message to his MCU co-star Scarlett Johansson for receiving the American Cinematheque award.
Robert Downey Jr. congratulates his MCU co-star, Scarlett Johansson, for her latest award with a message full of profanity. The couple first worked together on Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2 since 2010 as Tony Stark / Iron Man and Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow. Since then, they have co-starred in several Marvel Studios movies; both end their respective arcs in 2019 with Avengers Endgame. While Tony’s narrative concluded in the Joe and Anthony Russo-directed film, Johansson returned for the prequel film, Black widow, which served as his proper farewell.
It’s true that Johansson’s exit from the MCU was more complicated than Downey’s. To begin with, his death in Avengers Endgame was widely criticized. Besides that, the Black widow The indie film was supposed to start Phase 4, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was delayed several times. The hybrid release of the film both in theaters and on Disney + also resulted in Johansson filing a lawsuit against Disney for loss of potential earnings. Ultimately, both parties found a middle ground and the case was dismissed. In the midst of all of this, there is no denying that being a part of the MCU was an important moment for Johansson.
As members of the original Avengers lineup with Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evans (Captain America), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Johansson and Downey have become close friends throughout their time. in the MCU. So when the Iron Man actor was asked to honor his Marvel co-star as she became the 35th American Cinematheque Award winner, he couldn’t refuse. However, instead of the typical poignant message, Downey opted for a more daring speech. Of course, everything was done in a fun way. Watch the actor’s video below the event shared on Twitter by Chris gardner.
The other thing is that Robert Downey Jr. is REALLY going to compromise a bit. Here he turns down the tribute to Scarlett Johansson (because all the other Avengers have done so is reason enough to pass) before reading the Teleprompter prank script. pic.twitter.com/29mZrARRe0

As mentioned, it’s all part of the Downey part and it successfully evoked laughter from the audience, including Johansson. Aside from the actor, other MCU stars also paid tribute to the actress, albeit in a more traditional way. Sam Rockwell, Chris Evans and Samuel L. Jackson sent their messages. Meanwhile, Jeremy Renner, Favreau, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige were on hand to personally pay tribute to the actress. In fact, during his speech, Feige revealed that they are already re-teaming with Johansson for a “Top Secret Marvel Studios Project”. While he did not provide any further details on this new collaboration, he did say that it has nothing to do with Black Widow or the character of Natasha Romanoff.
It’s great to see some of the MCU’s founding actors come together to honor Johansson. For Downey, it’s even interesting to see the branding shown in the background of his video. As exciting as the future of the franchise may seem, there will always be a special place for the original Avengers. While the universe will have to go on without some of them, there is always the possibility that both Downey and Johansson will reprise their roles as Iron Man and Black Widow in the future due to the burgeoning MCU multiverse.
