Satyameva Jayate 2 Movie Review: I never thought there would come a day when I would say this, but I miss Milap Milan Zaveri’s first one very much. Satyameva jayate film. At least the first movie had Manoj Bajpayee giving one of his hammiest performances to date that drew inadvertent laughter, and had a plot-like appearance. The premise was something out of a Shankar movie: a vigilante killing corrupt people and a cop going out to catch him, but there was an excuse for a plot there. Satyameva Jayate 2 you have, sigh, three John Abraham vying with each other as to who can scream loudest when it comes to breaking your eardrums. Damn you, Einstein and your theory of relativity! Movie Review Satyameva Jayate: John Abraham and Manoj Bajpayee’s Thriller Ends up Being an Unintentionally Hilarious No-Show.
The bespectacled Satya Balram Aazad (John Abraham) is an Interior Minister from Uttar Pradesh who is so bad at his job that not only can he not even curb the increasing restrictions in the state, but also cannot convince members of his coalition party nor his own wife (Divya Khosla Kumar) to support his anti-corruption bill. He has a twin brother in shirtless Jay Balram Aazad (John Abraham II), an ACP whose muscles work harder than his brains. His late father, the mustachioed Dadasaheb Balram Aazad (John Abraham III) used to be the leader of a popular farmer who once tried to present the Lokpal bill. The Vidhan sabha now adorns his bronze statue that enhances the six glorious abs! His mother (Gautami Kapoor) has been in a coma for years, although we’re pretty sure she’s waiting for the right moment to wake up when the masala is high. I didn’t spoil it for you, the trailers already have.
There is also a supposedly fourth John Abraham who roams at night in hooded sweatshirts and kills the corrupt. Of course, he’s one of the first two John’s we meet, and the suspense about who he might be is revealed in the first half, if that matters to you.
Watch the trailer:
There is almost no doubt that Milap Zaveri is a huge fan of the pulpy movies that used to rule Bollywood in the past (and is slowly making a comeback again). Movie influences like Mr. India, Deewar, Shahenshah and even Judwaa can be seen in SMJ2. His fans call his films an ode to the era of Manmohan Desai and Subhash Ghai. As someone who has grown up enjoying the cheesy stuff in those movies, I humbly disagree with that sentiment. Yes Satyameva Jayate 2 it is a tribute to those films, it scares me to think what the criticism of Zaveri would be like!
Like Churuli which came out on Sony LIV last week, I really like to think about Satyameva jayate 2 as a surreal and exciting experience. Not the kind of baffling experience that Churuli was. But the one that attracts migraines and makes you pull your hair out in frustration. Surreal, I say because the type of script the film uses and the noisy performances in it are beyond the purview of any reasoning. Where, and this applies to all the movies in the Milap Zaveri universe, all the characters like to play word games and drop all kinds of terrible rhymes, as if they were competing for the last ranking in a slam poetry. This is shame multiplied to the most infinite power.
In fairness to screenwriter and director Milap Milan Zaveri, Satyameva Jayate 2 it’s a very “balanced” movie. Allow glorious moments for Hindu, Muslim, and Sikh sentiments to revel (if other religions feel left out, we say you’re lucky!). The film takes indirect photographs at almost every holiday, be it present or past, or the one attempting to go beyond the borders of Delhi. It tries to tackle all the hot topics that rule our headlines, from corruption to farmer concerns, sexual assault and medical malpractice, but with the utmost sensitivity of a sledgehammer. Or rather, John’s muscular and unworldly arms. Satyameva Jayate 2 Song Jann Gann Mann: John Abraham brings you the Patriotic Hymn of the Year! (Watch video).
Satyameva Jayate 2 try to balance on all the ships that you don’t care that all the ships are sinking in the water, in case of SMJ2, the water being a lack of logic and common sense. The first half tries to try to have a plot even if it is simply a rehash of the plot from the first movie. The second half, after a very grueling flashback sequence, puts all your hands up and gets lost in all the nonsense, noise, and confusion of whatever is being conjured here.
Even the performances are insanely terrible, matching the mediocrity on screen. John Abraham is a very cool star, but by now it is a foregone conclusion that he is not a very competent actor. Asking him to do three multiple roles in a single film, where the only difference between the faces is the props given (specs or mustache) to cover up the commonality of a singular lack of expression, is too much. In Malayalam, there is a saying “Teach your thumbThat comes to mind when I see poor John breaking all the veins in his face trying to rehearse these three characters.
The rest of the cast was wasted on poorly written parts and loud performances, including the very stylish Gautami Kapoor. I thought the character of Divya would matter a bit to the plot, while the Interior Minister’s wife, John, also belongs to his opposition party. Unfortunately, just like the terrible remixes his music company puts out almost every week, it doesn’t matter!
– Nora Fatehi’s belly dance is a marvel on its own!
Now go ahead!
– This whole movie is a no! Satyavachan!
Satyameva Jayate 2 It is a terrible, terrible movie that feels an assault not only on your thinking and hearing senses, but even on that conscious heart that cares about the problems that plague this country. The way you try to approach social problems smacks of extreme irresponsibility, but then Satyameva Jayate 2 exists to earn cheap applause from frontbenchers (in case that doesn’t happen, the movie includes its own cheers and applause for John). Forget about global warming or an asteroid attack, the biggest disaster would be if the creators announced the third part of this movie! And considering everything going on around you, I’m pretty sure it will happen very soon!
