System of a Down’s Serj Tankian Preps NFT Exhibit ‘Not for Touching’

System of a Down’s Serj Tankian is holding his next online art show, offering a mix of non-expendable animated tiles and archival giclée prints.

Not for Touch – The intangible composition, presented by CurioNFT, consists of 21 pieces, which will be unveiled and will go on sale on December 6 through an interactive gallery. Viewers will be able to browse simulated gallery rooms with large-scale animated graphics designed by visual effects master Roger Kupelian (The Lord of the rings, Hugo). Music composed by Tankian will set the soundtrack to the experience.

An animated piece from the exhibit, “Space Clock (Black)”, is available to view below.

In an email to Rolling StoneSays Tankian of the exhibition: “It is true, in essence, that I decided to start painting so that I could see my music. Music is not only intangible, it has also become commodified, undervalued, and deeply undervalued. That’s why during exhibitions, when people ask me if the music for each of my artworks is available elsewhere, I happily say no. Art, my art makes my music more exclusive. In other words, I enjoy the interplay between tangible and non-tangible creations. NFTs are the next step. Within the NFTs we can not only connect the music with the real painting, but we can also make them dance. The more we interact with multiple senses, the greater the artistic multiplier effect. “

Not to touch It will feature several one-of-one NFTs to buy, and they will come with a signed giclee print attached. There will also be four series of one of the 25 NFTs with signed prints and four versions of one of the 100 NFTs only. Tankian and CurioNFT plan to offset the exhibit’s environmental impact by using “lazy coinage,” a process that reduces emissions by minting NFT when there is not much use of Ehtereum.

Not to touch cap off a busy year for Tankian. In July, he released Cool Gardens Poetry Suite, in which he paired poems from his collection, Fresh gardens, with new pieces of classical music. He also released Film, a set of 25 compositions divided into two collections that explore classic and more modern soundscapes, while also releasing two film soundtracks for documentaries, Truth to power and I am not alone.
