MacGruber is set to return after more than a decade away, and the streaming platform has released the first trailer for the series, framed as a jailhouse interview with the title character, played by Will Forte. An exaggerated parody of MacGyver, the series centers on a decorated veteran who faces extraordinary hardships (and kills many bad guys) in the name of making the world a better place. It’s based on the 2010 movie of the same name, which proved popular enough that there have been rumors of sequels or TV spin-offs basically since the movie was released.

Forte returns to write, executive produce and star in the next MacGruber series, reprising his role from the original film. Produced by Universal Television, MacGruber It will pick up more than ten years after the events of the film. MacGruber has been in prison during that time, but is released early in the series and is determined to hunt down a dangerous foe.

You can watch the trailer below.

Forte spoke about the series’ progress before it was picked up during an interview with in May. “Well I’ll say we don’t have an official green light, but just an hour ago we delivered our writer’s draft of the eighth of the eight episodes,” Forte said in the interview seen in the video above. “So we’re excited about what we’ve written so far and obviously we’ll reread now and keep rewriting every episode and making it tighter and funnier. We’re excited so far and hopefully we’ll soon.” I’ll get an official green light, but things are going well so far. “

Jorma Taccone, the film’s director and co-writer, will also direct, write and executive produce the show. Other executive producers include Lorne Michaels, John Solomon, John Goldwyn, Andrew Singer, and Erin David.

Here is the official synopsis of the MacGruber Serie:

“After rotting in prison for more than a decade, America’s supreme hero and super patriot, MacGruber, is finally freed. His mission: to take down a mysterious villain from his past: Brigade Commander Enos Queeth. To the world Targeted entirely, MacGruber (Will Forte), Vicki and Piper must race against time to defeat the forces of evil. Only to find that evil … may be lurking within. “

MacGruber will begin broadcasting on December 16 on Peacock. If you haven’t signed up for Peacock yet, you can give it a try here.
